INDIA : PONDICHERRY ARCHDIOCESE GOES GLOBAL WITH THE GOOD NEWS
Puducherry, India
The Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore, has turned as many stones as possible to its convenience with the help of the digital media and the internet to go global to preach the Good news. Catholic Church in general has taken up to the 'net novelties' in reaching out to its flock and people all around the world so much so we could find Vatican on You Tube, and the Supreme Pontiff on Face book. Very recently while addressing the members of the pontifical council for social communications the Holy Father spoke of a speedy and penetrating communication. He added "A genuine revolution is taking place in the realm of social communications of which the church is ever more responsibly conscious."
Fr. S. Sandou Cyril, Secretary to the Archdiocesan Curia who also oversees the project of the Archdiocese going global said "actually the embryo of the thought to set our foot on YouTube, Face book and Orkut sprung after the model of Vatican. The mission command of Jesus "go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good news to all creation" has never been so easier to carry out with the advent of the bloating broadband connections. There is a paradigmatic shift in the way the mission command of Jesus is executed. As Jesus charged the apostles to go out to the ends of the earth today, we upload the Good News contents and charge them to reach to the ends of the world. The Good news travels through the web portals and knocks at the doors of the surfers and all those who log on finds the Good news. It is really amazing to see how people are really interested."
The prelate of the Archdiocese Most Rev. Dr. Antony Anandarayar said "The Archdiocese's two websites www.archdiocesepondicherry.com and www.pondicherryarchdiocese.org are attracting 700 visitors a month and our You Tube channel www.youtube.com/user/archpondy 500 visitors. Annually we are reaching out to almost 14,000 visitors who come to know us through these portals, which really is a significant leap in these days of communication explosion. We are happy that we could spread the message of Christ to people all around the world so effectively and swiftly."
While explaining about the benefits of owning a You Tube channel Fr.Sandou Cyril said, "firstly, by uploading a video we are able to evangelize, communicate our mission, and pastoral activities to the world. Secondly, by our channel we build an audio-visual archive on the web which, in future would serve as a strong historical source and thirdly to relate and connect with the Archdiocesan community spread in different countries of the globe.
With the adage 'YOU TUBING JESUS' the ARCHPONDY channel so far has uploaded 29 visuals with documentaries, prayer videos, Holy Father's messages, and pastoral and evangelization activities of the Archdiocese . Recently, the Archdiocese has also initiated virtual communities on Orkut and Face book, the social networking websites. These systematic efforts of the Pondicherry Archdiocese to go global stand as an effort avant-garde for the whole region to use modern means of social communications for evangelization and proclamation.
